No Dairy, No Problem: 5 Vegan-Friendly Treats to Crush Your Next Craving

It’s officially hit—the dreaded afternoon slump has arrived. Lunch didn’t do the trick and you’re starving. But you’re a vegan and snagging a healthy (and exciting) snack can be tricky.

Tired of plain celery sticks? Us too. We know this type of diet takes commitment, but killing that 3pm craving can be a cinch. Whether you’re craving salty or sweet, crunchy or smooth, here are five delicious snack ideas you can whip up ahead of time to get you through the day. Even if you’re not vegan, these no meat and no dairy delights will hit the spot.

Homemade Granola Bars

Forget the processed, high-sugar granola bars you’re used to. Whip up a batch of your own before the hectic week starts, and you’ll have a great snack for days. We love this no-bake recipe, which makes it simple with five ingredients. Mix up the nut butters, seeds and dried fruits each time to keep treats exciting.

Banana Ice Cream

Ice Cream for vegans? You bet! This simple 1-ingredient trick seems too good to be true. Peel and chop a few bananas and freeze them over night. Throw the frozen pieces into a food processor (or strong blender) and purée until creamy. Enjoy the treat then or store in a Tupperware for later. If you want to get creative, add in some cinnamon or peanut butter. This recipe is a great way to use up bananas that may have surpassed their ripe days and turned brown.

Avocado Toast

This “it” food might be so popular because it seems to never disappoint. Mash a quarter of an avocado and add a splash of lemon juice, salt and pepper.  Throw on top of a grainy piece of toast and sprinkle with cayenne pepper. Viola! You’ll be the envy of the office.

Roasted Chickpeas

Um, that can of chickpeas has been sitting in your cabinet for how long? Let’s put it to use with a quick oven recipe. Drain them, dry them, toss with olive oil and salt. Place them in the oven at 400°F for 20 minutes—and shake them around every few minutes. Once they’ve reached your desired crispness, pull them out and season with your favorite spices. Congrats! You’ve transformed the boring salad add-in into crunchy treats that are the perfect snack when on-the-go.

Salsa with Cucumber “Chips”

Bring a little fiesta to the office with a dip that has more zest than what you find on the shelf. Finely chop up a red pepper, a mango and an onion. Season with lime juice and sprinkle with pepper. Use cucumber slices for dipping and you’ll have a guilt-free Mexican-fix.
